Intern – Communications Job Summary The Communications Intern will support the Communication Section of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa with social media content, digital communications, media-related activities, event coverage, internal communications, and communication materials related to ECA's thematic areas. Key Responsibilities Support the development of social media content and messages on areas including: Climate Change Regional Integration Innovation Infrastructure Development Gender UN and International Days Translate content for media, ECA platforms, and social media. Develop digital communication assets such as quote cards, GIFs, and videos. Support event coverage and prepare press releases, media advisories, and short blog content for the website and Intranet. Assist with media monitoring and maintenance of media databases. Support internal communications related to the Administration Division. Compile analysis, data, and information relating to ECA's thematic activities. Participate in conferences, webinars, and other events. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Eligibility Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements: Be enrolled in a graduate school programme leading to a second university degree or equivalent, or higher, in journalism, communication, media relations, languages, digital/social media, or a related field; or Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first-level university degree, with a minimum bachelor's degree requirement, in one of the relevant fields. Applicants may also be considered if they have completed the relevant degree within the specified eligibility period. Professional work experience is not required. Applicants may be required to provide proof of enrollment and an official degree certificate during the recruitment process. Languages Fluency in English and/or French is required. Knowledge of another UN official language—Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish—is desirable. French is also considered an asset. Internship Conditions The internship is not financially remunerated. Travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsor. Meetings Services Assistant – G-6 Job Summary The Meetings Services Assistant will support the Publications and Conference Management Section (PCMS) of ECA's Administration and Conference Management Division, with responsibilities covering conference planning and coordination, meeting documentation, participant and meeting information, facilities, correspondence, data analysis, and related conference services. The position works under the general guidance of the Chief of PCMS and the direct supervision of the Chief of the Conference Planning and Coordination Services Unit. Key Responsibilities Organize and coordinate preparatory meetings. Prepare procedural notes and ensure the availability of required documents, personnel, and services. Track documents through E-Dritis and ODS. Prepare and maintain reference materials and proceedings reports. Prepare daily and weekly meeting programmes. Support voting, elections, and tabulation activities when required. Prepare agenda lists and daily meeting materials. Maintain participant lists and meeting databases, including information on interpretation, venues, and meeting dates. Compile monthly statistics. Prepare resource requirements and cost estimates. Coordinate facilities and meeting rooms. Support speaker and attendance arrangements. Research and prepare reference materials. Ensure documents comply with UN documentation standards and reproduction requirements. Prepare seating arrangements and floor plans in accordance with protocol requirements. Participate in planning meetings. Support arrangements and cost coordination for off-site meetings. Prepare correspondence and maintain filing systems. Respond to queries related to conference services. Perform functions in the absence of more senior staff when required. Assist with the recruitment, scheduling, and supervision of temporary assistants. Provide guidance and training to junior staff. Collect and analyze data and prepare presentations and reports. Support the preparation of visualizations, web pages, and brochures. Communicate with freelance interpreters regarding assignments, event arrangements, documentation, and payments. Perform other duties as assigned. Education A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Work Experience A minimum of 7 years of experience in conference support or a related area is required. At least 1 year of experience in data analytics is desirable. Languages English is required, including UN Level II proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is desirable, with UN Level I proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
