KYC Officer – Job Description
The KYC Officer will support Resource Mobilization and Branch Operations in ensuring that customer account opening and Know Your Customer (KYC) processes comply with applicable National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) requirements, institutional policies, and procedures.
The role also involves reviewing customer transactions, identifying unusual or suspicious activity, maintaining KYC documentation, supporting branch staff, and contributing to effective customer due diligence and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
The KYC Officer will:
Prepare the annual KYC plan and submit it to the supervisor.
Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual KYC reports.
Implement KYC guidelines across area and branch offices and follow up on their implementation.
Identify and propose changes to the institution's KYC processes.
Provide technical assistance to area and branch staff on KYC management.
Review and periodically update KYC policies in line with NBE directives and other applicable government regulations.
Ensure proper management of KYC documents at branch level.
Monitor compliance with KYC policies and take timely corrective action when violations are identified.
Establish clear account approval processes and procedures.
Conduct periodic reviews and updates of customer profiles based on the institution's customer risk rating.
Coordinate KYC Officers involved in account-opening activities.
Report suspicious transactions to immediate supervisors.
Conduct due diligence on new clients, including requesting, reviewing, and verifying KYC documentation.
Perform analytical risk assessments for new clients.
Periodically evaluate existing clients' KYC information according to established policies and procedures.
Maintain contact with customers to keep customer files updated.
Track the performance and development of KYC team members.
Propose remedial actions for findings that do not comply with the company's KYC policy.
Support the delivery of adequate KYC services and obtain customer feedback.
Process entries for opening and closing client accounts in the KYC, related-party, and customer due diligence databases.
Instruct KYC Officers regarding account opening and closing processes.
Conduct further investigations into identified suspicious clients and transactions.
Report relevant findings to the Deposit Mobilization & Branch Operations Director.
Perform other KYC-related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
Applicants should have a:
BA Degree in Accounting

Or an equivalent/relevant qualification.
Work Experience
Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
