Atlas Africa is assembling a technically strong team for a short-term baseline study on next-generation agriculture in Ethiopia. The study will set benchmarks for programme impact and outcome indicators, and assess Next-generation engagement in agriculture, access to markets and finance, jobs, income, and enterprise growth. Positions available (8 posts)1. Team Leader (1 post) What you will do Provide overall technical leadership, study management and quality assurance from inception to final reporting Lead the survey design and methodological framework Review programme indicators and translate them into measurable baseline indicators Approve the sampling strategy, questionnaires and qualitative research tools Oversee fieldwork, data quality, analysis and validation Coordinate the technical team and lead preparation of the final baseline report What we are looking for PhD in Sociology, Agricultural Economics, Development Studies, Statistics or another relevant discipline 10 years of relevant experience in survey design and implementation, including baseline assessments, preferably in Ethiopia’s agricultural sector Strong experience leading multidisciplinary research teams and coordinating fieldwork across multiple locations Excellent analytical, report-writing, presentation and stakeholder-engagement skills Experience facilitating validation workshops and turning evidence into clear, actionable findings Fluency in English; knowledge of Ethiopian local languages is an advantage 2. Agricultural Specialist, Value Chains and A Next-generation Enterprise (1 post) What you will do Provide technical input on agricultural value chains, A Young Person enterprise development, market systems and rural livelihoods Review study questions and indicators to ensure they capture Next-generation participation, opportunities and constraints Contribute to survey questions, interview guides and focus-group tools on production, markets, employment and enterprise development Identify value-chain actors, market linkages, service providers and institutional stakeholders for consultation Analyse access to productive resources, skills, markets, technology, business support and decent work for young people Interpret findings on barriers and opportunities for young-led agricultural enterprises Contribute to analysis, recommendations, stakeholder validation and the baseline report What we are looking for Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Agriculture, Development Studies, Rural Development or a related field At least 7 years of experience in value-chain analysis, agribusiness, young enterprise development, rural livelihoods or market systems Understanding of agricultural markets, smallholder production systems and the challenges facing A Young Person-led enterprises Experience contributing to baseline studies, evaluations, market assessments or socio-economic research Strong analytical, communication and report-writing skills Experience in Ethiopia’s agricultural sector and familiarity with local value chains is highly desirable 3. Data Analyst / GIS Expert (1 post) What you will do Support the team to refine the quantitative survey design, sampling approach and analysis plan Develop or review sampling frames and sample allocation, value chain and employment pathway Support digitisation, testing and quality assurance of tools on KoboToolbox, ODK or another designated platform Set up data-quality checks and monitor incoming data for missing, inconsistent or anomalous records Clean, validate, label and manage datasets, and run statistical analysis aligned with baseline indicators Use GIS and spatial-analysis tools to analyse and present geographic patterns Prepare tables, charts, maps and data summaries for the baseline report Maintain datasets, codebooks and do-files for transparency and reproducibility Work with the Team Leader and specialists to triangulate findings and prepare evidence for validation What we are looking for Master’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, GIS, Economics, Agricultural Economics, M&E, Demography or a related quantitative field Strong proficiency in Stata, SPSS or R, plus Excel and digital data-collection platforms Demonstrated experience in data cleaning, validation, disaggregated analysis and reproducible datasets Practical experience with GIS or spatial-analysis tools and data visualisation Strong analytical, documentation and report-writing skills; agriculture orNext-generation-employment research experience in Ethiopia is an advantage 4. Financial Inclusion Specialist (1 post) What you will do Provide technical input on financial inclusion and access to financial services amongNext-generation youth and agricultural enterprises Define dimensions for assessing access to savings, credit, insurance, digital financial services and other products Contribute to survey and qualitative tools on financial access, affordability, use and barriers Assess how access to finance affects Next-generation participation in value chains, enterprise start-up and growth Analyse barriers such as collateral requirements, financial literacy, service availability, affordability and gender-related constraints Engage financial service providers, community institutions and other stakeholders Prepare technical findings and recommendations, and contribute to report writing and validation What we are looking for Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Financial Inclusion, Development Studies, Agricultural Economics or a related field At least 7 years of experience in financial inclusion, access-to-finance assessments, SME or enterprise finance, rural finance or development research Understanding of savings, credit, insurance, digital financial services and the financial barriers facing Next-generationor agricultural enterprises Experience conducting or contributing to baseline studies, market assessments, evaluations or mixed-methods research Strong analytical, stakeholder-engagement and report-writing skills Experience in Ethiopia or similar agricultural and rural contexts is highly desirable 5. Zonal Coordinators (4 posts) 📍 North Shewa | East Shewa | West Shewa | Sheger City Administration What you will do Coordinate day-to-day field data collection in your zone, including schedules, team deployment and completion of planned interviews Liaise with local stakeholders and support respondent mobilisation and scheduling for surveys, key informant interviews and focus groups Supervise enumerators and ensure adherence to the sampling plan, data-collection protocols, informed-consent procedures and safeguarding requirements Carry out daily field-progress and data-quality checks and give timely feedback to field teams Escalate operational and technical issues to the Team Leader and Data Analyst and support corrective action Maintain field records, respondent-tracking logs, issue logs and daily progress summaries Support field-team debriefs and ensure secure handling and timely submission of data What we are looking for Degree in Agriculture, Development Studies, Social Sciences, M&E, Statistics, Economics or a related field At least 5 years of experience in field research coordination, surveys, assessments, M&E or community-based data collection Experience supervising enumerators or field teams and maintaining data quality and ethical research standards Good knowledge of the assigned zone, including local institutions, community structures and stakeholder networks Proficiency in Afaan Oromo and/or Amharic, as relevant to the area, is highly desirable Experience with KoboToolbox, ODK or similar platforms, and strong coordination, communication, problem-solving and reporting skills How to apply 📩 Email your updated CV and relevant academic/professional certificates to recruitment@atlasafrica.co.ke by 14 October 2026 .
