Job Description

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is inviting applications for a Security Assistant G5 position in Gode, Ethiopia. The full-time, fixed-term position requires a minimum of secondary school education and 5 years of progressive security experience. Security Assistant G5 Organization: World Food Programme (WFP) Position: Security Assistant G5 Job Requisition: JR123835 Duty Station: Gode, Ethiopia Employment Type: Full-time Contract Type: Fixed-term Contract Duration: 12 months Grade: G5 Career Level: Not specified Application Deadline: August 28, 2026 at 23:59 East Africa Time (Addis Ababa) Job Purpose The Security Assistant will support specialized security operations and related processes, including security monitoring, risk assessment, reporting, coordination, and maintenance of security equipment in accordance with established procedures. The position is based in the WFP Gode Sub Office and reports to the Head of Security Unit, Head of Sub Office, or designate. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will: Assist with reviewing security threats and risks and prepare accurate reports on security trends and situations. Review security incidents, events, and daily security activities and provide basic analysis and reporting. Coordinate with local administration, security and law enforcement authorities, communities, UN and NGO security personnel, and other relevant actors. Support the planning and preparation of field missions, including staff tracking and regular security assessments. Prepare weekly and ad hoc security assessment reports and provide risk mitigation recommendations. Assist with security risk management advice and safety matters in accordance with the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS). Support implementation of security risk mitigation measures, including Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS). Assist in managing and maintaining security equipment and identifying technology requirements. Monitor compliance with access control procedures for staff and visitors. Contribute to emergency and contingency planning documentation and related preparations. Assist in identifying security training needs and supporting training activities. Supervise and provide on-the-job training to other staff where required. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education Minimum secondary school education. A first-level university degree is desirable. Experience At least 5 years of progressive experience in security. Language Fluency in both spoken and written English and Somali is required. Desired Experience Candidates with the following experience are preferred: Knowledge of security operations and related technical processes. Experience supporting security operations. Previous experience with the UN system or international NGOs. Experience providing ad hoc technical guidance to staff. Desired Skills Compliance Investigation Accountability Record maintenance Organizing and coordination Knowledge and Technical Skills Candidates should have: Proficiency in office equipment and computer software, including Microsoft Word. Knowledge of work routines and methods for completing processes with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate tactfully and courteously with a wide range of individuals. Ability to provide guidance or basic on-the-job training to junior staff. Working Conditions The role may require employees to: Work different shifts. Report for duty at short notice.
