Role Description
The Editor role is a full-time, hybrid position based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with the option to perform some duties from home. The Editor will review, edit, and approve news articles, features, and opinion pieces to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to editorial standards. Daily responsibilities include coordinating with reporters and contributors, providing constructive feedback, and overseeing content layout and headlines for both print and digital platforms. The Editor will support fact-checking, verify sources, and maintain ethical and non-discriminatory reporting practices aligned with organizational guidelines. The role also involves participating in editorial meetings, planning coverage, and contributing to the continuous improvement of newsroom processes.
Qualifications
Strong editorial skills, including text review, structural editing, and headline writing for news and feature content.
Ability to manage multiple assignments, coordinate with journalists, and meet tight publication deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in local languages is an advantage.
Demonstrated commitment to ethical journalism, impartial reporting, and non-discriminatory content practices.
Competence in using digital publishing tools, content management systems, and basic office software.
Solid news judgment, fact-checking skills, and familiarity with current affairs in Ethiopia and the region.
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Experience working in a newsroom or media environment, preferably in an editorial or supervisory capacity.
