Workshop Manager

1. Job PurposeThe Workshop Manager is responsible for managing the company's truck maintenance and repair operations to ensure maximum vehicle availability, reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.2. Key ResponsibilitiesWorkshop OperationsManage daily workshop activities and prioritize maintenance and repair requirements.Develop preventive maintenance schedules for all trucks and equipment.Ensure trucks receive scheduled servicing according to manufacturer recommendations and company requirements.Coordinate emergency repairs and breakdown recovery.Ensure vehicles are released only after appropriate inspection and repair completion.Minimize vehicle downtime and maximize fleet availability.Fleet MaintenanceMaintain accurate maintenance records for every truck.Monitor mileage and service intervals.Identify recurring mechanical problems and recommend corrective actions.Conduct regular inspections of vehicles.Ensure proper diagnosis of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other technical problems.Coordinate major repairs and overhaul activities.Recommend vehicle replacement where maintenance costs become uneconomical.Tire ManagementManage tire inspection, rotation, replacement, repair, and tracking.Monitor tire wear and identify abnormal wear patterns.Maintain accurate tire inventory and records.Monitor tire cost per kilometer.Implement measures to reduce tire damage, misuse, and premature replacement.Spare Parts and InventoryIdentify required spare parts and consumables.Coordinate with procurement and stores to ensure availability of critical parts.Monitor workshop inventory levels.Ensure proper control and issuance of spare parts.Reduce unnecessary parts consumption and wastage.Verify that purchased parts meet required specifications.Team ManagementSupervise mechanics, technicians, and workshop personnel.Allocate daily jobs and monitor completion.Establish productivity and quality standards.Conduct performance reviews and identify training needs.Ensure workshop staff follow safety procedures and technical standards.Maintain discipline and professional standards within the workshop.Safety and ComplianceEnsure workshop activities comply with QHSE policies.Maintain a safe and organized workshop environment.Ensure proper use of PPE and workshop equipment.Report accidents, incidents, and unsafe conditions.Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and calibrated where applicable.Reporting and Cost ControlPrepare maintenance and workshop performance reports.Monitor maintenance costs per truck and per kilometer.Analyze vehicle downtime and recurring repair costs.Monitor warranty claims where applicable.Recommend cost-reduction initiatives without compromising safety or vehicle reliability.3. Key Performance IndicatorsFleet availabilityPreventive maintenance complianceAverage vehicle downtimeMaintenance cost per kilometerBreakdown frequencyRepeat repair rateTire cost per kilometerSpare parts consumptionWorkshop productivityRepair turnaround timeWorkshop safety performance4. Qualifications and ExperienceBachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related field.Minimum 5 years of experience in fleet/workshop management.Experience managing maintenance operations for heavy-duty trucks is strongly preferred.Experience managing a fleet of 50+ commercial vehicles is an advantage.Strong knowledge of diesel engines, heavy trucks, vehicle diagnostics, and preventive maintenance.Knowledge of tire management and fleet maintenance systems.Strong understanding of occupational health and safety requirements.5. Core CompetenciesTechnical expertiseLeadership and team managementProblem-solving and diagnosticsPlanning and organizationCost managementAttention to detailDecision-makingSafety awarenessStrong communication skillsAbility to work under operational pressureHow to Apply: Applications for this role are handled by YES | Your Employment Solutions, the recruiter for this employer. Apply opens the YES application form.
