Job Description: 1. Position InformationJob Title: Senior ResearcherOrganization: WABEKBON Development Consulting Institute (PLC)Duty Station: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to project areas as required2. Job PurposeThe Senior Researcher is responsible for providing high-level technical and professional support in the preparation and implementation of research, consultancy, evaluation, baseline, endline, impact assessment, feasibility study, and related development assignments undertaken by WABEKBON Development Consulting Institute (PLC).The position requires strong competence in technical proposal preparation, research design, field coordination, data management and analysis, professional report writing, training, quality assurance, and presentation of research findings. The Senior Researcher will work closely with project team leaders, consultants, clients, government institutions, development partners, field teams, and other stakeholders to ensure that consultancy assignments are implemented according to agreed Terms of Reference, methodologies, timelines, and professional standards.3. Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesA. Technical Proposal and Bid PreparationThe Senior Researcher shall:Review Terms of Reference (TOR), Requests for Proposals (RFP), Expressions of Interest (EOI), and other bidding documents.Prepare high-quality technical proposals for consultancy and research assignments.Develop appropriate technical approaches, methodologies, sampling designs, work plans, implementation schedules, and staffing arrangements.Prepare technical sections of bid documents in accordance with client requirements.Contribute to the preparation of methodology, study frameworks, data collection approaches, quality assurance plans, and deliverable schedules.B. Research Design and MethodologyDesign quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method research studies.Develop conceptual and analytical frameworks appropriate to each assignment.Design sampling methodologies and determine appropriate sample sizes in collaboration with statisticians and other specialists where required.Prepare household questionnaires, key informant interview guides, focus group discussion guides, institutional questionnaires, checklists, and other data collection instruments.C. Technical and Professional Report WritingPrepare high-quality inception reports, field reports, progress reports, draft reports, final reports, evaluation reports, baseline reports, endline reports, impact assessment reports, feasibility studies, and other professional documents.Develop clear and evidence-based findings, conclusions, and recommendations.Ensure that reports respond fully to the TOR, research questions, evaluation criteria, and client requirements.Review and edit reports prepared by other research team members.Ensure consistency between research objectives, methodology, analysis, findings, conclusions, and recommendations.Incorporate client and stakeholder comments into revised and final reports.Ensure proper referencing, citation, presentation of tables and figures, and professional formatting.4. Educational QualificationsThe candidate must have:A minimum of Master's Degree (MA/MSc) in:Agricultural Economics; Development Studies; Social Anthropology; Economics; Rural Development; Development Economics; or another closely related field.A PhD in Agricultural Economics, Development Studies, Social Anthropology, or a related discipline is highly preferred.5. Work ExperienceThe candidate should preferably have:At least 7 years of relevant professional experience for Master's Degree holders; orAt least 5 years of relevant professional experience for PhD holders.Relevant experience should include substantial involvement in:research and consultancy assignments;baseline and endline surveys;socioeconomic studies;monitoring and evaluation;impact assessments;technical proposal preparation;field research coordination;data analysis; andprofessional report writing.Experience working with government institutions, international development organizations, NGOs, donor-funded programs, research institutions, or consulting firms will be an advantage.6. Required Technical CompetenciesThe Senior Researcher should demonstrate:Strong research design and analytical skills.Excellent technical proposal-writing ability.Advanced professional and technical report-writing skills.Strong quantitative and qualitative research capability.Good knowledge of data management and quality-control procedures.Competence in statistical software such as SPSS, STATA, R, or similar programs.7. Behavioral and Professional CompetenciesThe successful candidate should possess:High professional integrity and ethical standards.Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.8. Language RequirementsExcellent command of written and spoken English is required.Strong command of Amharic is required.Knowledge of Afan Oromo and other Ethiopian languages is an added advantage.
