What you’ll do: We are looking for a passionate and highly motivated Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails) who can contribute across both product engineering and production support functions. The ideal candidate should have strong backend development skills, experience building scalable APIs and applications, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in a high-volume FinTech environment. This role provides exposure to large-scale distributed systems, lending platforms, payment integrations, multi-market deployments, and mission-critical applications serving millions of customers across multiple countries. You will: ● Develop, enhance, and maintain backend applications and RESTful APIs using Ruby on Rails. ● Work on complex production issues and customer-impacting incidents. ● Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineering teams to understand business requirements and deliver scalable solutions. ● Write clean, maintainable, and effi cient code following established coding standards and best practices. ● Participate actively in code reviews, design discussions, and sprint planning activities. ● Investigate, debug, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues with a focus on 1 performance, reliability, and scalability. ● Analyse application logs, database logs, server metrics, and monitoring alerts to identify and resolve issues. ● Perform detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for production incidents and implement permanent corrective actions. ● Contribute to system performance optimisation and application stability initiatives. ● Design and implement database schemas, queries, and optimisations for high-volume applications. ● Build and maintain automated test suites using RSpec and other testing frameworks. ● Work with background job processing systems to support asynchronous workfl ows. ● Collaborate with DevOps teams during deployments, monitoring, and release activities. ● Support production deployments, emergency releases, hotfi xes, and rollback activities. ● Create and maintain technical runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge base documentation. ● Continuously learn and adopt new technologies, frameworks, and engineering practices. Preferred Qualifications: ● 2–4 years of hands-on experience in Ruby on Rails development. ● Strong understanding of Ruby programming fundamentals and Rails framework concepts. ● Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs. ● Experience supporting production applications and handling incidents, along with strong debugging and problem-solving skills. ● Good understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and design patterns. ● Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including 2 query optimisation and indexing concepts. ● Familiarity with Redis and background job processing frameworks such as Sidekiq, Resque, or Delayed Job. ● Understanding of software development best practices, including code reviews, testing, and version control. ● Hands-on experience with testing frameworks such as RSpec. ● Working knowledge of Git and modern source control workfl ows. ● Familiarity with Linux environments and basic command-line operations. ● Understanding of application performance, caching strategies, and debugging techniques. ● Exposure to Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments is a plus. ● Strong communication and collaboration skills. Good to Have: ● Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems concepts. ● Experience working with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases. ● Knowledge of API security concepts such as OAuth, JWT, and authentication/authorization mechanisms. ● Understanding of Agile/Scrum development methodologies. ● Experience working in FinTech, Banking, Lending, Payments, or other high-scale transactional systems.
