Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist with strong leadership and management experience to lead laboratory operations within a growing healthcare organization. This senior management position is responsible for providing strategic direction, establishing advanced diagnostic laboratory services, and overseeing all aspects of laboratory operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in setting up and managing a state-of-the-art medical laboratory in Addis Ababa while ensuring high-quality patient care, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and sustainable financial performance. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Develop and implement strategies for expanding diagnostic laboratory services, including new technologies, quality systems, digital health solutions, and service growth. Contribute to organizational strategic planning and align laboratory objectives with overall business goals. Clinical Governance & Quality Management Develop, implement, and monitor laboratory policies, procedures, quality control programs, and compliance frameworks. Ensure adherence to international and national laboratory standards and patient safety requirements. Manage Laboratory Information Systems (LIS/LIMS) to maintain data integrity, security, and efficient reporting. Collaborate effectively with clinical and non-clinical teams to drive service excellence. Operations Management Oversee daily laboratory operations, workflow efficiency, patient access, and service delivery. Establish and maintain quality assurance and safety programs. Manage laboratory equipment lifecycle, including procurement, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting. Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff. Develop and manage departmental budgets, monitor financial performance, and optimize resource utilization. Oversee inventory management of laboratory consumables and supplies. Monitor operational performance and prepare periodic reports. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related scientific field from a recognized institution. Postgraduate training in business, management, or a related field is an advantage. Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, including at least 4 years in a management or supervisory role. Experience in clinical laboratory operations within healthcare institutions. Experience with ISO-certified environments is an advantage. Strong knowledge of laboratory systems, information technology, and quality management practices. Proven leadership, team management, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Experience introducing new laboratory equipment, tests, or healthcare facilities is highly desirable. Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, patient-centered service delivery, and operational planning.
