Job Description
Key Responsibilities
A. Patient Assessment and Clinical Care
Conduct comprehensive physiotherapy assessments based on patient history, clinical findings, and physician/referral information.
Develop individualized physiotherapy treatment and rehabilitation plans.
Provide appropriate therapeutic interventions, including therapeutic exercises, mobility training, manual therapy, physical modalities, and functional rehabilitation as clinically indicated.
Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans according to patient response and clinical needs.
Educate patients and caregivers on exercises, mobility, posture, prevention of complications, and home-based rehabilitation.
Identify changes in patient condition requiring referral or consultation with the responsible physician or other healthcare professionals.
Ensure patient privacy, dignity, informed participation, and safe care throughout treatment.
B. Patient Safety and Quality
Follow hospital patient-safety procedures, infection-prevention requirements, occupational safety standards, and clinical protocols.
Assess risks associated with patient mobility, transfers, falls, and therapeutic interventions.
Use physiotherapy equipment safely and report defective or unsafe equipment promptly.
Participate in quality-improvement activities and clinical audits.
Report adverse events, incidents, and safety concerns through the appropriate hospital reporting system.
C. Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate and timely physiotherapy assessment, treatment, progress, and discharge records.
Document treatment provided, patient response, clinical outcomes, and recommendations.
Prepare required departmental reports and statistics.
Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information.
D. Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, rehabilitation professionals, and other healthcare teams.
Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions when required.
Communicate patient progress and rehabilitation recommendations clearly to the relevant healthcare team.
Support continuity of care during admission, transfer, and discharge.
E. Professional Development
Participate in continuing professional development (CPD), in-service training, case presentations, and clinical learning activities.
Maintain and continuously improve professional knowledge and clinical skills.
Participate in competency assessments and performance appraisal activities.
Share relevant knowledge and skills with colleagues and students/interns when assigned.
F. Equipment and Resource Management
Use physiotherapy equipment and supplies appropriately and economically.
Conduct routine checks of equipment and report maintenance or replacement needs.
Support proper inventory control of physiotherapy materials and equipment.
Ensure the treatment area is clean, organized, and safe.
Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy/Physical Therapy from a recognized educational institution.
Valid professional license/registration as required by the relevant Ethiopian regulatory authority.
Relevant clinical experience is preferred.
