Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Qualitative Researcher role based in Addis Ababa. The Qualitative Researcher will design and implement qualitative studies, including interviews, focus group discussions, case studies, and field observations to address policy and program questions. Responsibilities include developing research tools, collecting and analyzing data, and synthesizing findings into clear reports, briefs, and presentations for policy makers and practitioners. The role involves collaborating with internal teams and clients to refine research questions, support program evaluations, and contribute to evidence-based learning products. The Qualitative Researcher will also help contextualize global best practices to local realities and support training sessions by translating research insights into practical recommendations. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong qualitative research skills, including Research and Ethnography, with experience designing and conducting in-depth studies. Candidates with strong experience of strategies and skills that are helpful of mainstreaming gender and social inclusion (GESI) during program baseline and evaluation studies. Candidates should possess qualitative research skills, mange to obtain clearance form local administrations, promoting primacy of informed consent, assuring confidentiality and respectful for the respondent and cultural sensitivity during filed research Demonstrative experience with triangulation of singular research approaches and skills to complement quantitative research with qualitative approaches and support mixed-methods projects. Candidates should possess advanced Analytical Skills to interpret complex data, identify patterns, and produce actionable insights for policy and practice. Relevant academic background in social sciences, public policy, development studies, or related fields; a bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree is an advantage. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to prepare clear reports, briefs, and presentations for diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and engage respectfully with communities and stakeholders. Experience with program evaluation, evidence-based learning, or consultancy work is highly beneficial. Proficiency with qualitative data collection and analysis tools (such as ODK, Kobo Toolbox and Power BI) and basic familiarity with statistical or data visualization software is an added advantage.
