Role Description
The Anesthetist will provide anesthesia care for patients undergoing surgical and diagnostic procedures in an on-site, hospital-based setting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Day-to-day responsibilities include preoperative assessment, planning appropriate anesthesia techniques, administering general and regional anesthesia, and monitoring patients during and after procedures. The role involves participating in critical care management, supporting postoperative pain control, and responding to anesthesia-related emergencies. The Anesthetist will collaborate closely with surgeons, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, high-quality patient outcomes and may contribute to teaching and mentoring within the department. This is a full-time, on-site position.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in anesthesiology and medicine, with the ability to apply clinical knowledge to diverse patient populations.
Competence in general anesthesia and related techniques for a variety of surgical and procedural settings.
Experience or training in critical care medicine, including perioperative monitoring and management of unstable patients.
Ability to work effectively within surgical teams and support safe surgical care across multiple specialties.
Recognized medical degree and formal training in anesthesia; relevant certification or licensure as required by national regulations.
Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, ethical clinical practice, and adherence to institutional and national clinical guidelines.
Effective communication, teamwork, and documentation skills, with the ability to work in a high-demand clinical environment.
Interest in teaching, continued professional development, and participation in departmental academic or quality improvement activities.
