Job Description

The Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), Addis Ababa University is inviting applications from motivated students and recent graduates for an unpaid internship supporting the preparation and implementation of the Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa 2026. This internship opportunity is suitable for students and recent graduates interested in peace and security, international relations, political science, governance, development studies, and related social sciences. Internship Summary Organization: Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), Addis Ababa University Internship: Tana High-Level Forum 2026 Support Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Employment Type: Unpaid Internship Eligible Applicants: Ethiopian applicants only Target Applicants: Current students and recent graduates Application Deadline: September 23, 2026 Eligible Fields of Study Applications are particularly encouraged from students and recent graduates in: Peace and Security Studies Social Sciences International Relations Political Science Development Studies Governance and Public Administration Related fields Key Responsibilities Selected interns will work with the Tana Forum team and various IPSS units and may support: Event preparation, planning, and coordination. Administrative, research, programme, and operational activities. Administrative and logistical support before and during the Forum. Other activities and tasks required for the preparation and implementation of the Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa. Requirements Applicants should: Be currently enrolled in or have recently completed a relevant university programme. Demonstrate a strong interest in African peace and security issues. Have good communication and interpersonal skills. Be responsible, organised, and able to work effectively as part of a team. Have a good command of English. Knowledge of Amharic or other languages is an advantage. Be available to support activities during the preparation period and throughout the Forum. Be an Ethiopian applicant. Be willing to undertake the internship on an unpaid basis. What the Internship Offers Although this is an unpaid internship, selected interns will have the opportunity to gain practical experience through: Exposure to a high-level international peace and security forum. Practical experience in event management and coordination. Interaction with policymakers, diplomats, researchers, practitioners, and other stakeholders. Experience in professional communication and stakeholder engagement. Development of skills in research, administration, logistics, and teamwork. Increased understanding of Africa's peace and security landscape.
