Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Tax Lawyer role based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Tax Lawyer will provide legal guidance on tax matters affecting EasyPOS, including corporate tax, indirect tax, and related regulatory obligations. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing and drafting tax-related contracts and policies, advising on tax-efficient business structures, and supporting tax planning for transactions and ongoing operations. The role involves monitoring changes in Ethiopian tax law and regulations, ensuring timely compliance with filings and payments, and managing communications with tax authorities when needed. The Tax Lawyer will collaborate with finance, operations, and leadership teams to assess tax risks, develop mitigation strategies, and support audits, disputes, or rulings. The position may also involve preparing internal summaries, training materials, and guidance to help non-legal stakeholders understand tax requirements. Qualifications Strong foundation in Law and Tax Law, with proven experience interpreting and applying relevant Ethiopian tax legislation and regulations. Practical expertise in Tax and Tax Advisory, including handling tax queries, supporting audits, and advising internal stakeholders on risk and compliance. Experience in Tax Planning, particularly in designing tax-efficient structures and advising on the tax impact of business decisions and transactions. Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) required; additional specialization or postgraduate studies in Tax Law or related fields are an advantage. Membership in good standing with the relevant bar association or legal licensing body in Ethiopia. Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex tax rules into clear, practical guidance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Amharic or other local languages is beneficial. High attention to detail, integrity, and the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Prior experience in technology, software, or financial services industries is a plus.
